Maurice Sullins (1910–1995), worked at an airport in Illinois and began making paintings at the age of sixty. He worked obsessively on his art, producing some 1200 paintings. Many depict landscapes or refer to nature and its forces. A look at the career of an unlikely, inventive modernist.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Cathy Ward, brutjournal’s London-based artist-correspondent, lived and worked in New York, where she soaked up the city’s sometimes exuberant, sometimes sinister atmosphere.
